Daddy vs Kids - Day 1

As was mentioned yesterday Kasey will be out of town through Thursday evening, thus the title of the posting.  Lily has decided today is the day she will completely rebel against me.  Last night she was told that her room needed to be cleaned today and she was then told again this morning.  By the middle of the morning, I asked her if she had cleaned it, and the response was negative.  She was then asked if she planned on cleaning it, and once again the response was negative, but with a look as if to say what are you going to do about it.  I will spare you the details of the rest of that conversation suffice to say Lily should count her blessings that Lauren was around as a witness to keep me in check.  It should be noted that this incident followed the morning breakfast debacle in which Lily convinced herself she hated oatmeal so much that she literally barfed it up.

While Lauren was going through her regular routine of bathing everybody for us, I went to the store to make sure we had food enough for the week.  There is no real point to this paragraph other than to share one of my biggest pet peeves.  Now I know some people are really set in their ways and need to make sure that every item is scanned with the correct price, but for the love of all that is good and holy, could you please not wait til the checker gives you a total to then decide to pull out your check book?  Or could you at least have filled out part of the check before you got to the store?  Some of our calendars have more than item per day and don't afford us the luxury of learning the cashier's baby daddy is a loser.  I feel a little better now, thank you.

Upon return from my trip to the store the twins were still napping so I was able to put all the groceries away, check on a few emails and then get dinner started.  Lily was quite helpful and kept Lawson entertained.  The Boy has a radar built in and knows exactly when you are making his food for him and no matter how quickly you can prepare it, it just ain't fast enough for him.  I was able to get Lawson fed about the time the twins were waking from their nap so dinner was ready for them when they got down stairs.  Both Abby and Chloe ate all their dinner and were very pleasant at dinner.  Not once did they complain about anything on their plate including asparagus.  The eldest child, not so pleasant.  The child has a way of prolonging a meal that I really don't even know how to describe.  We are not going to punish the twins and make them sit there waiting on Lily to finish so they had already been excused.  The twins went outside and I thought maybe if Lily finished her dinner outside I could get the dishes started.  After specifically telling her she is not excused until her dinner is finished, I look out the back window and she is running around doing everything but eating.  So I came up with perfect punishment........she has to go to bed when the twins go to bed.  This may not seem like that big of deal, but the hour or 2 of silence in the evening when all the kids are in bed is like gold.

Lawson added a good touch of humor to the evening.  While Lily was trying to finish her dinner, Abby was "encouraging her" to eat her asparagus.  I asked Abby to leave Lily alone and let her finish, to which Abby responded with ptththththththth (that's the stick out your tongue noise).  Just as I was about to scold the child and let her know that is not how you respond to Daddy, Lawson looks at Abby and let's out an even louder PTHTHTHTTHTHTH.  Now each and every child is laughing and I have lost my chance to make my point, but it was worth it.

All in all it was a good evening and the scoreboard reads Daddy - 1, Kids - 0.  All kids were fed, dishes were done, we spent some time rough housing with no tears, the girls all went to bed without incident, and the boy and I finished our standard night time ritual with him passing out to his last bottle.

Goodnight now!

Jeff, Kasey, Lily, Abby, Chloe and Lawson
